I do not know about you but I am really struggling with the realisation that all my spoken words are pregnant with either God given purpose or something far less desirable.
So, to add to my struggles here are some further thoughts I had about the words God speaks. Unfortunately, the majority of us who have grown up in western culture categorise the Torah (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers & Deuteronomy) under the heading of law. Those from a Hebrew culture actually view it as God's instruction book for life or an instruction book on the character of God. This raises an interesting question as to what Torah (as God's spoken word) is pregnant with? I believe the answer to this question is: it is pregnant with power to align our character with the character of God!!! Of course all of this hinges on whether we choose to obey or disobey what God has spoken. In this context obedience can be viewed as being akin to a midwife. Here is an interesting definition I found for midwife: 1. a person trained to assist women in childbirth. 2. a person or thing that produces or aids in producing something new or different. When we obey what God has spoken we are actively involved in producing something new or different into the world in which we live. But the obvious follow up question is: when we disobey what God has spoken are we actively involved in an abortion? There is another Hebrew insight that makes this line of thought even more uncomfortable. You see in Hebrew it is never about you as an individual because you are the sum of all the generations that preceded you and all the generations that will come from you. When Cain killed Abel

I know a bit about the generations before me so if we are tied to the generations before us all the more reason to, by the power of Jesus, break the chains that define as something other than a good midwife. I would like to leave a positive legacy on my line!!
