Proverbs 3:5 & 6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Previously I have shared with you the word picture meaning for trust: inside the fence. We also connected this with the word picture for grace: fence protecting life.
These past few days I have found myself challenged to take these precious word picture meanings out of the realm of my intellect into the harshness of everyday life. I believe Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were well aware of these word picture meanings as they were thrown into the fiery furnace. So then, how much did they trust God? How centred were they in God's grace? A subtitle for the book of Job could well have been: 'Job, Do You Trust Me?' In Job we see how difficult the journey can be into the centre of God's amazing grace where we are able to trust the Lord with all our hearts. Job demonstrates the battle involved in transitioning from Full Assurance In Trusting Humans to Full Assurance In Trusting HIM!! The Rabbis believed the essence of prayer was: "Lord, make my heart so pliable that I will readily accept and embrace your perfect will for my life regardless of what the circumstances look like." I believe that Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego and Job all learned to pray like this. Lord help me to follow their example.
