GETTING TO THE SOURCENovember 14, 2008 by eaglerj
In the last blog we came up with a bit of a definition for an ungodly measure:
Anything that restricts the light flowing from the relationship between us and Papa/Jesus/Holy Spirit.
So, where do we go to find the source of this can of worms labelled ungodly measures? Genesis of course!!!
But before we go there we need to make a quick detour that will make all the difference to what we see in Genesis.
1John 1:
  • 5. This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
  • 6. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.
  • 7. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
  • 8. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
  • 9. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sinsand purify us from all unrighteousness.
  • 10. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.
Genesis 3:
  • 1.Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
  • 2.And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;
  • 3.but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ “
  • 4.Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.
  • 5. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
I wish to propose that the first words in Scripture recorded as coming from Satan as a source are in fact the first ungodly measure: “Has God indeed said”. These four words effectively question the very essence of who God is. They raise the possibility of there being darkness in the Godhead by suggesting God is capable of telling us lies.
Is it possible that we have been so focussed on “the fall” being all about mankind's sin that we have overlooked a far, far more dangerous Trojan horse?
